On Saturday 17th July Fleetwood Town Community Trusts Positive Pathways held their first Armed Forces Veterans Kayak session on Fleetwood Boating Lake.
The weather was scorching down at the lake as everyone slapped on their sun cream and dived into the kayaks.
Instruction for the beginners was given by Fleetwood Veteran Kevin Gray who also gave a fantastic demonstration of how not to enter the water. It wasn’t long before everyone was paddling round the lake with ease. Families were involved and made to feel welcome, and the laughs could be heard all around the lake as people chatted and enjoyed the experience.
Days like these are put on for everyone to have fun and more importantly connect with other Veterans in the community. A bond is already building within the group and many of these same faces attend our weekly walk and talk and our online coffee morning sessions. All ages and services are extremely welcome, and it was great to see some new members on Saturday too. This will become a regular event throughout the year after the feedback received so get yourself down next time with your family and enjoy a free, fun activity but most importantly meet some amazing people. In a time where we are coming out of restrictions this is undoubtably an activity to help improve your mental health with the added bonus of some physical exercise.
A big thank you to all who attended and supported the event. Also thank you to Kevin and Lisa Jackson for the use of their boats and equipment. It’s amazing to see Veterans supporting other veterans and I’m extremely proud of them all.
