Fleetwood Town duo Alex Cairns and Lewie Coyle spent Thursday afternoon at Garstang Community Primary School and took part in a multi-sports activity session with the Year One pupils.
Once the two arrived at the school, it was a short introduction to the after school club before diving straight into the action, where the two took part in the whole session and got heavily involved in all the fun activities.
With throwing and catching, movement with the ball on the floor and in hands, it was an enjoyable afternoon for all invovled, especially with the sun shining right down on the playground. A sprint race was on the agenda for the two players, and with Cairns versus Coyle, there could only be one winner! If you see them on Saturday afternoon at Highbury, why don’t you ask them who won.
Cairns – who won the Community Player of the Year award in May – spoke following the visit and said: “We are looking to build something at this football club and with the support we have, it is amazing. If we can get into schools and get the younger generation involved, it will be fantastic to see them at Highbury in the near future and these visits will only help our cause.”
Coyle added: “With the after school club today, we took part in so many activities and it was great to join in with the children and from what we saw, they thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s nice to be recognised and for us it is nice to give something back because they come and watch us week in and it’s only right we give that back to the community.”
We would like to say a huge thank you to Garstang Community Primary School and their headteacher, Mrs Reeves for having us this afternoon. We will see at the game in a couple of days!
Coyle and Cairns will be in action on Saturday as Fleetwood face Rochdale at Highbury in the 3pm kick-off. Make sure you get your tickets today – buy online here – and cheer them on as they look to extend their unbeaten home record this season!
