The Community Trust work a lot in the local community, but they also help develop coaches, steering them in the right pathway for their career.

Mason Seddon began volunteering on the Premier League Kicks programme alongside others Fleetwood Town Community projects in 2017, and quickly demonstrated his ability to work with young people in a sporting environment.

Following Mason committing his own time to PL Kicks at Milton Street, he expressed an enthusiasm for learning further and shadowing other coaches in mixed environments highlighting his adaptability when being a part of a session.

In 2018 Mason was offered further opportunities to coach in a paid role where he would regularly be working with Nursery children, Over 50’s and teenagers every day. Mason quickly bought into the PL Kicks objectives and continued to make a positive impact around Wyre.

Now, in 2019 he leads sessions at Milton Street and Preesall and influences not only the participants but fellow coaches that have followed a similar pathway.

Corey Patterson – The Assistant Coach at PL Kicks in Milton Street – began volunteering with the Trust in 2018 and quickly developed a great relationship with Mason along with gaining further coaching qualifications and now both Corey is in a similar position.

He said: “I have to credit Mason for some of my own professional development. I have copied certain aspects of his coaching and youth engagement but he has explained the reasons why he does and says certain things to get the best out of the young people.”

John Hartley, Community Sports Development Officer at Fleetwood Town Community Trust stated: “Mason continues to show that he can take on additional responsibility by his quick progression from volunteering at Milton Street to now being Lead coach at multiple centres in such a short space of time.

“What is most pleasing is that current volunteers look up to him a role model and as somebody that they aspire to be like further in their own coaching journey. ”
