Fleetwood Town Community Trust has been awarded two grants totalling £8,640 to support vulnerable members of the community affected by the COVID-19 crisis.
The grants, awarded by the Lancashire COVID-19 Community Support Fund and the National Emergencies Trust, have allowed the Community Trust to support its programme participants and club supporters during the pandemic.
A grant of £4,540 has been awarded so the Trust can provide a free weekly programme of sport, physical activity, and mental health workshops to children and young people across Wyre, while maintaining all social distancing rules.
“We know that the vast majority of young people have been unable to attend school and participate in structured sport and physical activity programmes,” said Matt Hilton, Chief Executive of the Trust.
“This has led to children falling behind at school and leading a sedentary inactive lifestyle, and furthermore, social, anxiety, mental health and inactivity are all huge concerns for our local young people across the borough.”
Earlier this year, the Trust was also awarded £4,100 so they could supply food parcels containing essential food and drink items, along with engaging materials such as exercise sheets, to local residents. This was to keep residents occupied at home whilst adhering to government guidelines.
“We are delighted to have been awarded this grant, which will allow us to further support the most vulnerable people in Wyre who are accessing our programmes,” said Matt.
“We want to provide as much support as we can to those who have been affected by COVID-19. We know that some people are unable to leave their homes due to this crisis, but we want to show the Wyre community that they are not alone.
“We would like to place on record our thanks to The Co-op Thornton, who have gone above and beyond to source supplies, and the volunteers that have supported the delivery of food parcels.
“It is great to see communities coming together as one to support each other through this challenging time.”
