A nine-year-old girl from Carleton Green Primary School has been raising money for a mental health charity – The Princess Trust.

This year, Ruby’s class received the Healthy Heads programme delivered by the Trust, in partnership with the Wyre & Fylde SSP and Healthy Heads Education.

Through the combination of both theory and physical activity, Healthy Heads teaches children about key values such as confidence, respect and teamwork and is active within a large number of local primary schools.

Choosing to sit at the front of the class every week, Ruby excelled within the Healthy Heads programme and Coach Caroline stated she was a great role model for the group.

Caroline said: “Ruby engaged and participated in every discussion, whilst trying her best during the physical activity games. Each week, Ruby would discuss all the things she’d been doing to demonstrate her good character.”

The week four topic of discussion was about why people give money to charity, a message that Ruby took very seriously.

Now, following the close of the programme, Ruby is supporting The Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides real wigs to children and young people with hair loss. Ruby has already had her hair cut short, with her off-cuts of her hair being donated to this charity.

Rob Larcombe, Owner of Healthy Heads and Sports Development Officer at Fleetwood Town Community Trust added: “Almost 1 in 4 children show signs of mental ill health at some point during their childhood and this ratio increases in adulthood.

“Almost half of adults suffering from mental ill health develop this before the age of 14 and evidently, this is a prevalent issue in today’s society and it’s fantastic that Ruby has decided to help others by supporting The Little Princess Trust.”

Young Ruby is now raising money for The Little Princess Trust so they can continue to help children and young people that are experiencing hair loss.

Fleetwood Town Community Trust, The Wyre & Fylde SSP and Healthy Heads Education are proud to support Ruby with this fantastic cause. If you’d like to donate, you can do so by clicking this link HERE.
