Walking Football

Walking Football is focused on enabling people over 50 to get involved in sport and physical activity.

There are three sessions held at Poolfoot Farm Sports & Leisure Complex in Thornton on a weekly basis giving the opportunity for people to keep active with us. The Walking Football sessions run by Fleetwood Town Flyers FC are growing week on week.

John Hartley, Community Cohesion and Inclusion Manager said, ‘The walking football sessions have gone from strength to strength and Fleetwood Town Flyers FC regularly play in competitive games and tournaments. Walking Football promotes the social and inclusion side of the game along with exercise and enjoyment’

We have noticed the positive impacts the football sessions are having on those that attend, whether it be socially, physically or for mental wellbeing.

Steve has been an ever present member of the Fleetwood Flyers group since March 2017, in which Fleetwood Town Community Trust continue to partner. Steve was first introduced to walking football at Poolfoot Farm by his friends Pete and Steve, where he first went to watch the group play and met with the Fleetwood Flyers committee members to discuss his aims and ambitions. Since joining the group he has made friends for life but has also lost a considerable amount of weight.
