There are over 5,000 veterans now living in the borough of Wyre, with over 150 of those regularly taking part in wellbeing activities provided by Fleetwood Town Community Trust.
Fleetwood Town Community Trust are the registered charity associated to Fleetwood Town FC, providing sport, education, inclusion and health provisions for the wider community across the district.
On Saturday 25th February 2023, The Veterans Walk for Wellbeing will commence, starting from Morecambe’s Mazuma Stadium, with Community Trust staff and volunteers completing the 20.4 mile walk to the home of Fleetwood Town FC, Highbury Stadium, ahead of the League One fixture.
The Trust are aiming to raise £5,000 which will help sustain health and wellbeing activities for the remainder of 2023 on a weekly occurrence. All activities aim to enhance the lives of it’s community encouraging social and physical development for veterans and their family members.
Trust Deputy CEO, John Hartley added: ”The Trust have been able to offer health and wellbeing initiatives free of charge to veterans across the Fylde Coast for little over five years and the funds raised will help not only to see these continue to grow further. It is vital that there are easily accessible activities for people to attend after they have left the military and we aim to do so by creating a safe environment and encouraging friendships.”
