On Friday 21st February volunteers came together for a night under the Highbury Stadium lights raising much needed awareness towards those affected by homelessness on the Fylde Coast, with funds being raised to support them.
We were joined by Krol Corlett Construction and staff from George Williams House (Salvation Army) as our headline sponsor and event support respectively. The evening kicked off with group introductions and a range of activities showcased by the Community Trust staff team as part of the existing delivery programmes, activities included Darts, Boccia and Chair Based Exercises.
All participants were gifted a care package by the Salvation Army, to be given to anybody they know would benefit.
MP Lorraine Beavers attended the event and said, “The true importance of this event lies in raising awareness of homelessness within our community—highlighting not only those without shelter but also the many who are sofa surfing, unsure of where they’ll sleep tonight. By sharing these stories with the public, we can inspire action. When people see these events and get involved, it not only helps us provide financial support but also brings together those experiencing these challenges. Together, as a community, we have the power to make a real difference.”
FTCT CEO, John Hartley explained, “The Sleepout has proven to be a time to recognise the hardship that so many are under, to put ourselves in their position for a relevantly short period of time in cold conditions. The community came together to do good and support those that need it most and the collective efforts are greatly appreciated from all at the Community Trust. There are many of the participants that woke up with stiff necks and sore limbs due to lying on a hard cold surface. That is the reality that so many face day and night.”
