On Sunday 7th July, we held our Ladies Summer Tournament, in honour and in memory of the wonderful Rachel Duncan. Rachel was a huge part of the Ladies Fleetwood Wren’s Team and we partnered with Wrens to be able organise this event.
The day was a huge success with 16 teams from all over the Northwest coming together to play the sport they love, whilst opening up the conversation of mental health and honouring Rachel’s memory! We had 3 wonderful stalls in attendance too to offer support and advice regarding females in business and mental health (Connectiverse, Victrex and 5am Contract Cleaning).
We are thrilled to announce that we raised an amazing total of £1,600! The money raised will be split between Fleetwood Town Community Trust and The Richmond Fellowship. Rachel’s family indicated to us that the Richmond Fellowship offered and supported Rachel in her time of need and they would like this event to support this charity too. Fleetwood Town Community Trust will be utilising the money raised to support our own mental health programmes and our female football programmes to continue supporting and creating strong females in Sport, just like Rachel loved!
Please read below quotes from Richmond Fellowship and Fleetwood Wren’s regarding the event and the money raised in memory of Rachel Duncan!
Faye Wilson, Service Manager at Richmond Fellowship:
“We are a small, short term intervention service with a miniscule budget that doesn’t buy anything. We are chronically underfunded, and this donation is a blessing for us. The Light Lounge is a welcoming and non-judgemental environment for individuals struggling socially and emotionally with life challenges or for those in a mental health crisis. The Lounge has been opened for 4 years now and is need of a makeover. This donation will contribute towards this new design, and we are going to honour this in Rachel’s memory to continue her legacy and keep her memory alive. This donation will continue to support even more individuals that are struggling, and we are incredibly grateful.
You can contact us through Facebook for more information and we will be creating a Go Fund Me Page in due course if you wish to support us further.”
Sophie Richmond, Fleetwood Town Wren’s Vice Chair/Player:
“As a Club, we are still so thrilled to see how successful The Rachel Duncan Memorial Tournament was, we are honoured to have been able to put the day on the Trust.
We are so proud to have been able to raise much awareness for The Richmond Fellowship as well as being able to provide a fantastic donation, to a truly good cause.
The memory of Duncs will always live on within all of those that knew her and hold her dearly in their hearts. Now hearing how the donation will help The Richmond Fellowship will ensure Duncs memory will help others whilst ensuring she is never forgotten.”
