During the Easter Break, Fleetwood Town Community Trust and Wyre SSP collaborated to deliver a Gifted and Talented Camp, aimed at those who are excelling in a sporting capacity within school. Over 30 children from schools across Fylde and Wyre attended the 2 day Academy, which focused on different physical, mental and social aspects of sport.
On the opening day, the children were split into 3 groups. Each group would have their own activity, delivered by FTFC Community and Wyre and Fylde SSP staff. The three sessions were on a carousel based on:-
- What it takes to be an elite athlete – Goal Setting, Motivation and Positive/Negative thoughts.
- Muscular Endurance – core stability, muscle recovery
- Cardiovascular Stamina – importance of warming up, correct breathing techniques, short and long distance running
On the second week, the children were split into two groups, with a focus on Diet/Nutrition and the importance of team work. Both groups were then put together to play small sided conditioned games of handball, followed by a presentation of certificates and photographs.
