During the 2024/25 campaign we have recorded over 120 individual visits of Fleetwood Town FC players attending Community projects and activities, this ranging from Men’s First Team players, academy scholars and Ladies of Fleetwood Town Wrens.
Throughout the season there have been two particular players of note who have since been awarded the following:
PFA Community Champion – James Bolton
Community Trust Player of the Year – Brendan Wiredu
James signed for the club on the 4th July 2024 and automatically settled himself in the changing rooms as well as in Community settings. Within a month, he willingly met with the Player Engagement Co-Ordinator to discuss the role he can play with Community engagement, he had engaged with numerous school children at one of our Holiday Clubs and an invitational event at the Clubs Training Ground.
We announced our PFA Ambassadors in September, James showing a passion to be involved in the Education settings and was soon announced as our Community Trust Education Ambassador for 2024-2025.
Also this season, James was invited by the Community Trust Sports College to give a talk to their students to discuss the importance of education, as well as showing key characteristics such as resilience and confidence to be able to grow as individuals. The talk was inspiring to all student, with James being open and honest regarding his own set backs in his career and the importance of his own education, including a similar course to what the audience were receiving.
Brendan has shown a commitment to engage with the fan base whilst also being proactive in supporting the Trust’s charitable work. In more recent times Brendan has partnered with Wins and Heroes, generating over £850.00 in donations all of which contributes towards the Trust’s ongoing health and wellbeing provision in Wyre.
First Team Captain, Brendan Wiredu said, “Out of all the achievements and milestones I’ve reached personally this year. This one means the most, connecting on and off the pitch is something I’ve tried to do before being captain and becoming captain I’ve kept up the same role. I’m grateful for how the community trust has worked as one and the team work that we’ve done not just individual but collectively thank you”
Player Engagement Coordinator, Mike Tallentire added, “Firstly, we’d like to congratulate both James and Brendan for picking up these awards. This season, from a Community Engagement perspective, has been very successful. All the players have been very engaging and happy to be involved with all the different provisions and incentives the Trust deliver.
Both Brendan and James have gone above and beyond and are always willing to give a helping hand, which is a testament to themselves as individuals and as professionals and we are incredibly grateful for their continued support.”
Maheta Molango – CEO Professional Footballers’ Association added, “The PFA has once again been immensely proud of the outstanding efforts of players this season and we feel they should be recognised for their support and involvement in the local community. The Award will hopefully raise awareness of the importance many of our members attach to their roles off the pitch and highlight their continued commitment to support those most in need along with engaging in areas where they have a personal interest. We would like to offer our congratulations to James Bolton on achieving the 2024/25 PFA Community Champion Award.”
We would like to thank all players and staff for their involvement in the community this season.
