The Foundation Learning Football team took part in the Lancashire F.A PAN ability tournament on the Wednesday 8th February. The tournament had teams from other local Colleges such as Cardinal Newman College, Preston College, Blackburn College, Hawkley Brook College and Lancaster and Morecambe College.
The level of commitment from the players has been fantastic as well as the supporters who have been coming down to some of the training sessions; Myerscough were able to field 2 teams both of which gave their all and represented themselves and college in an extremely high manner. The coaches, staff and the whole of the foundation learning unit couldn’t be any prouder of how well the teams have come together as well as the worth ethic and teamwork to help each other out which has been displayed.
The Myerscough Reds had a great run of results losing only one game out of 5 in a game which they were 4-1 up before losing 7-5 but they also managed a great win again Newman College winning the game 3-2 with a last-minute goal from Declan Smith to secure the points. The Myerscough Whites also had a successful day drawing 3 of their games and were very unlucky not to win one as they conceded in the dying seconds and also had one of their loses to Myerscough Reds in a highly entertaining game. It was also great to see both teams supporting one another and really getting behind the teams to give them that extra man (and woman) on the sidelines in what was a fun day played in great spirits and a reward for their commitment in the last few weeks.
The College would like to thank everyone involved such as Fleetwood Town FC, Barry Sheriff, May Brennand and the whole of foundation learning unit and of course the players!! The progress made from the first week has been phenomenal especially the player’s attitudes and everyone is looking forward to continuing this trend after half term and creating many more fun memories and experiences.
If anyone else has some free time and would like to get involved with the team the training is 12-1pm on Thursdays in the Myerscough College sports hall and all are welcome to come down.
