The money, from the DONG Energy Community Fund, will form part of a bigger project totalling more than £67,000 over the next two years.
A team of lifestyle coaches will be deployed to deliver a Children & Family Wellness and Men’s Health & Lifestyle Management Programme. The projects will address high levels of poor health in the local community and raise awareness to help tackle issues as poor diet, obesity, heart disease, low physical activity levels and cancer prevention as well as mental health and wellbeing.
The programme which is being supported by Wyre Council and Healthier Fleetwood aims to bring together residents, health and care providers, emergency services, charities and voluntary groups, sports and community-based projects and local businesses to make a real difference to people’s lives.
Matt Hilton, Director of the Community Trust, said: “We are delighted to have secured the funding for this exciting, transformational project. As a local community organisation we care passionately about improving people’s lives, and this project will make a big difference”
Councillor Vivien Taylor, Health and Community Engagement Portfolio holder for Wyre Council said: “Fleetwood Town Community Trust are a valued partner in the Healthier Fleetwood programme, they will now be able to provide an innovative and insightful programme for the people of Fleetwood. I look forward to this initiative supporting improvements to health and wellbeing across the town.”
Rachel Cary, DONG Energy’s Lead Stakeholder Relations Advisor, said: “We are delighted by the quality and breadth of the community projects that came forward for this first round of funding. The independent steering group, made up of local council and voluntary sector representatives, has selected some great projects from supporting mental health charities and programmes to renovating sports and community facilities. Together they should leave a lasting positive impact on the local community.”
