Community Trust in the Regional Finals of the EFL Kinder+Sport Under 16’s Futsal Cup on Tuesday, where they finished winners.
The EFL Kinder+Sport Under 16’s Futsal Cup, which was held in Manchester, saw different teams across Lancashire play for a place in the National Finals in March.
Baines School earned the right to represent Fleetwood Town FC Community Trust in the Regional Finals after winning a local competition back in November.
Baines were drawn in Group One alongside representatives from Accrington Stanley, Blackburn Rovers, Carlisle United and Blackpool. The Trust progressed to the final after comfortably progressing from the group stages and beating Blackburn Rovers 3-0 in the semi final.
Baines took on local Fylde school Lytham St Annes in the final, where they ran out convincing 4-0 victors. Students from Baines were a credit to their school as they impressed throughout the day – on and off the pitch. Baines and Lytham St Annes will now progress to the National Finals in March at the Derby Velodrome where they will take on EFL clubs from across the country.
Futsal Officer at Fleetwood Town Community Trust, Dave Walton. “It was great to have two local schools in the Regional final at Manchester. For some of these lads it was a first taste of futsal and they really enjoyed the pace and the quick transitional play the game gives you”.
