School Support is a new initiative delivered by the Trust’s NCS team to local Year 11 and FE students as part of the new whole year approach for young people, to develop key life skills through a variety of themes post Secondary and Further Education. These include the following;

  • British Citizenship
  • Health & Wellbeing
  • Post COVID 19 Recovery
  • Independent Living
  • Employability
  • Careers Progression

Level 1 Horticulture student, Ciaran explained, “I’ve really enjoyed being on NCS and getting to know my classmates better through challenges and problem solving activities through both Employability and Health & Wellbeing topics. I’ve now completed my CV and hoping to get part time work on a Golf course next year.”

Jon Hoole, Horticulture Tutor added, “The NCS team at Fleetwood Town Community Trust have been truly amazing with our Level 1 Horticulture students at Myerscough College. The students and staff have thoroughly enjoyed the support given, experiencing a huge range of skills including CV writing, interview techniques, job searching and also themes based on physical and mental wellbeing. All of the class have requested both John and Callum continue to School Support offer in the New Year.”

The Community Trust have so far engaged with over 170 young people on NCS programmes since September 2020, some of which have been delivered online in a virtual platform.

NCS Officer, Callum Spence expressed, “We have enjoyed providing support around key topics that aren’t necessarily delivered in depth within Secondary Schools and Further Education. I believe that the students are at a crucial age to put into practice real life scenario’s around money management, alcohol and drugs or maintaining positive wellbeing, which I hope we have had the desired impact.”

NCS Trust and EFL Trust have recently confirmed that School Support will continue in 2021 to Secondary Schools and Further Education providers across Wyre.
