Fleetwood Town Player Joe Garner visited Larkholme Primary School this week to speak to the Year 6 children as they face increased anxieties towards transitioning to secondary school. He participated in a question and answer session surrounding dealing with stress as part of the Headstart Programme by Fleetwood Town FC Community Trust.

The Headstart programme offers class workshops and 1-2-1 support to year 6 children across Fleetwood to educate and raise awareness on mental health and how to manage big emotions. The aim being to ensure their transition to secondary school is as smooth as possible. Therefore, the children were lucky to speak to Joe Garner, who visited them to discuss all about his experiences of a footballer and challenges he has faced in his career. They asked some important questions about how he deals best with stresses on and off the pitch. Joe gave some fantastic and motivating answers, really focusing on the importance of teamwork, and talking to people you trust to offer support and advice.

The children were captivated by his responses, really taking in what he was saying to help them understand that they are not alone with challenges they may face in life! After some time answering questions, Joe then took time signing autographs for the children who were meeting their idol! It is great to see Fleetwood Town players interacting with the local community more as these children are some of their biggest fans!
