Fleetwood Town Sports College’s CEFA side were officially crowned CEFA North West Champions on Saturday the 24th of May, as players and staff were presented with the league title at Wembley Stadium .
In celebration of their efforts, the group travelled to the capital and attended the Championship Play-Off Final between Sunderland and Sheffield United, where the national ‘CEFA Awards’ took place.
The Community & Education Football Alliance (CEFA) is the only official football competition for EFL Club Community Organisations, featuring teams representing Premier League and EFL clubs with official names, kits, and club support.
Governed by the EFL, the league includes both regional and national cup competitions and aims to support players in pursuing their passion for football while achieving their educational goals.
The side only dropped points during two league games all season and progressed to the semi-final of the domestic cup, narrowly missing out on a place in the final after a closely fought clash with Grimsby Town.
The team, who represent Fleetwood Town’s Community Trust and Sports College programme, were the first to take to the stage at the national ceremony, with their achievements rightly recognised in front of thousands of fans inside the national stadium.
Captain Raeden Shirran and Head of Boys Football, Mason Seddon, also had the special honour of stepping onto the pitch at half-time to pose for a photo with the trophy in front of over 90,000 supporters.
Speaking after receiving the trophy, manager Mason Seddon said: “We are absolutely delighted to finally be crowned champions after many years of coming close.
“We feel we have been operating at a high level on and off the pitch for a long time, and the boys deserve the feeling this league win has given them – and their day out at Wembley.”
We would like to thank our partners, Ruby Energy, for kindly sponsoring their travel for the special event!
The awards ceremony was hosted by Sky Sports presenter Adam Smith and provided a truly memorable experience for all involved!
