Fleetwood Town Community Trust is delighted to have been awarded a £25,000 grant from Wyre Council so they can extend their provision and enrich the lives of even more individuals across the borough.

The Local Authority Discretionary Business Grant from Wyre Council will enable the Community Trust to continue delivering invaluable programmes to support the local community during these troubled times.

As well as supporting their programmes, a portion of the grant has been used to fund the relocation of the Community Trust’s operations. They have recently moved to a new office and have created two classrooms, which are already in use by BTEC students, who are continuing their education and gaining an insight into the sporting world from experienced professionals

Fleetwood Town Community Sports College is continuing to expand as they enrol a record number of students onto their BTEC programme. They have recently enrolled 19 students onto their BTEC programme, giving a total of 37 BTEC students including second years, which is their highest number yet.

The new classrooms will be able to accommodate this growing number of students and additional Sports College programmes, such as their brand-new Foundation Degree, which launched last month.

Matt Hilton, Chief Executive of the Community Trust, said:

“It’s such an honour for the Trust to have been awarded such a generous grant from Wyre Council, and I would like to extend our sincere gratitude. It’s invaluable, especially after the difficult few months we’re all experienced.

“This is real recognition of all our hard work and dedication to helping individuals across Wyre and the surrounding areas, and it’s come at the right time, as we reach out to those who have been most affected by the pandemic.

“Making a difference within our local communities is at the forefront of what we do, and the substantial funding from Wyre Council will enable us to have an impact on the lives of many more individuals, as well as helping provide a solid base for our Community Sports College. ”

Councillor Lynne Bowen, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Health and Community Engagement at Wyre Council comments, “We are really pleased to be able to support the great community work that Fleetwood Town Community Trust do with this grant.

“Over the last six months staff have been working hard to distribute grants totalling nearly £29m to all types of businesses across Wyre and it’s great to see the difference this money can make.”

Last year, the Community Trust delivered around 30 projects to over 13,000 local people. For more information about their programmes on offer, click here.
