In recognition of World Mental Health Day, our Premier League Primary Stars coordinator visited two local primary schools today to promote wellbeing and positive mental health among pupils — through the power of football and the Premier League, in partnership with Fleetwood Town Football Club Community Trust.
During the classroom workshops, children took part in a range of interactive activities designed to encourage discussion around emotions, resilience, and healthy habits. Pupils engaged in games and exercises that helped them identify and express their feelings, practice mindfulness techniques, and develop strategies for managing stress and challenges. They also learned about the importance of teamwork, communication, and supporting one another both in and out of the classroom.
Ryan Willetts, Head of Sport and Physical Activity, said:
“These workshops and themed sessions are so important to our values and delivery. They allow us to engage children in meaningful discussions about wellbeing, resilience, and confidence — all through football. By connecting with the children in a fun, interactive way, we’re helping them develop skills and strategies that will benefit them both on and off the pitch.”
The sessions were met with great enthusiasm, with children actively participating and sharing their own ideas about wellbeing. A special mention goes to Reece, who received fantastic feedback from one of the schools:
“Thank you for your workshop today; you were great with the children, so personal with their names and spending time with key children to encourage them or explaining the task further on a 1:1.”
By combining fun, interactive activities with important wellbeing messages, the initiative aims to help children develop lifelong skills for managing their mental health and supporting their peers — all through the positive influence of football and the Premier League.
