Employees at BES Utilities have been busy collecting food bank donations for local charity, The Mustard Seed Group, and they were delighted to hand over hundreds of jars, tins, and boxes for those in need.

In their latest initiative to support the local community, BES joined forces with Fleetwood Town Community Trust to provide food bank donations to Mustard Seed.

Matt Hilton, Chief Executive of the Community Trust, said:

“The Mustard Seed Group relies heavily on food donations so the volunteers can prepare hot meals for those in need of support.  If we all donate an item or two, we can really help the charity improve the health and wellbeing of disadvantaged and vulnerable local residents.

“We’re delighted that BES Utilities joined us in this initiative, and I hope other local businesses can join us in collecting food bank donations for this really worthy cause. By pulling together as a community, we can have a real impact on the lives of those who rely on the Mustard Seed Group.”

BES employees were invited to leave their donations in a collection box in the office, and there has been a fantastic amount of donations, from noodles and soup, to biscuits and cereal.

Mustard Seed Manager, Hilary Craig, along with volunteer, Anne-Marie Davies, visited BES to collect the boxes of food and were over the moon with the number of items donated,

“Receiving all these generous donations means a great deal to Mustard Seed, as it means we’ll be able to help even more people in need and in crisis within the town,” said Hilary.

Mustard Seed provides hot meals to those in need, all prepared and served by volunteers, and they rely heavily on donations of food.

Steve Rimell, Group Chief Executive of BES Utilities, said:

“I’m delighted with the generosity of the staff here at BES. It’s such a worthy cause and everyone has really got behind this initiative. We’re looking forward to continuing to support Mustard Seed in the new year.”

The Mustard Seed Group is an outreach charity for those who are lonely, vulnerable, in crisis or people experiencing short term difficulties and complications to their lives. They hold a weekly session where they offer hot meals and a place for people to relax and meet others in a safe environment.

The charity meets on a Monday night at 6pm at St Peters Church, Lord Street, Fleetwood. Click here to find out more.
