Girls and Ladies Football

Fleetwood Town Community Trust has footballing opportunities for girls and women of all ages whether it be competitive, for fitness or a social experience.

Delivered in partnership with The Football Association, Premier League Girls Football aims to provide opportunities for females aged 11 and over to take part in the sport in a local community setting. A total of 88 professional clubs run the programme, providing a wide variety of sessions aimed at different audiences, with almost 23,000 women and girls taking part in 2016/17. Since the programme began in September 2013, over 51,622 women and girls have been involved. Fleetwood Town Community Trust delivers innovative sessions to emphasise the fun, the social element of the sport and that use football as a way to keep fit.

For participants who want to progress in the game, clubs create pathways with local community clubs to provide long-term participation opportunities, whilst many clubs also deliver elements of the female talent pathway.

The programme has two main objectives:

To increase the number of women and girls playing football on a regular basis

To increase the opportunities for women and girls to develop skills and confidence and progress within the pathway as a player, coach or official

The programme achieves this by providing a fun and informal environment, allowing participants to progress at their own pace and make friends at the same time.

PL Girls sessions aim to provide a relaxed and welcoming football environment, with a key focus on Fun, Fitness, and Friendship.

Jason Sharp, Fleetwood Town Community Trust’s Sports Development Officer, commented “We’re really excited to be a part of this inspiring programme, and look forward to being among the clubs at the forefront of the future female game in England. The popularity of Women’s football in our city continues to grow, and we’re delighted that we can run fun sessions and open avenues for those who wish to progress beyond this”

Our Ladies Walking Football sessions are also growing week on week and the Community coaches have noticed the positive impacts the football sessions are having on those that attend, whether it be socially, physically and mentally.
